In Class Writing Prompt 1
In an honest statement, I do believe that I am extremely afraid of writing and being creative. Basically, this fear probably revolves around that fact that being critical and judging people is an inevitable experience. When writing, I always have to ask myself, “What are my other classmates going to think of this metaphor or that simile? Does it make me sound weird or rather strange?” I am fully aware that judging people’s work, thoughts, and self-expression is an innate situation, but that still cannot assist in making me feel comfortable with being critiqued or judged. One way I hope can help me work through this phobia to achieve self-efficacy is by slowly inching closer and closer to being comfortable with the way I write. In an example, maybe while writing a paper, the first rough draft will contain minimal symbolism and metaphorical tone. Then, after revising that rough draft, I can slowly start to insert more literary aspects into the paper. Finally, after the revising is finished, I will have a full-length paper containing a high amount of symbolism and metaphorical tone in which I will be comfortable with it. If I embrace my creative urge, one way that I can be more creative is to place more vivid adjectives into the situation being portrayed in the paper. Maybe after being comfortable with being creative, a class room will be no longer a learning center, but rather a “tension filled room with an atmosphere of failure,” or possibly “an open meadow that contains thoughts and open-minded theories, dancing and prancing in the field.” Basically, for now, it is more about the inch-by-inch idea in terms of gaining creative confidence.
The item I brought to class that assists me in writing is a peace sign necklace. In terms of sight, it has a purple band, representing equality, and a peace sign medallion, which, obviously enough, represents peace. In terms of feeling, it feels very sturdy and strong, which can represent the strength of equality and peace. The smell of the necklace is very distinct, containing a metallic scent and fragrance. Because of the fact that it is a necklace, it contains no literal sound. But, in terms of metaphorical sound, it is extremely loud on account of the underlying message it contains. Although I have never literally tasted the object, the symbolic taste of the accessory is highly inviting on account of its representation of every type or race of an individual. Now, a reader may be asking themselves, “How is this going to help some kid with writing?” Well, this particular item assists me in writing because it is a reminder to stay passive and save negative feelings for textual expression, such as journalism or poems. In an opinionated statement, I believe that many individuals, through the “hustle and bustle” of life, are completely and utterly forgetting that every individual they meet contains their own story, plot lines, and significantly, their downfalls. Because every individual in life has a story behind them, I don’t want negatively affect them and be their downfall in their “story” just because I was unfortunately rude or angry that day. The fact that the item helps me save aggressive or negative feelings for writing, it, in correlation, helps me gain experience in writing, thus making me a more sophisticated writer.
ReplyDelete“How I Met Your Mother” Response
ReplyDeleteThe episode of “How I Met Your Mother” that we watched in class was overall pretty phenomenal. In terms of the message, I really enjoyed the motif of the future. As every single person on the Earth is aware, dreaming about the future is an inevitable experience. It is extremely easy to envision luxury, wealth, and success in the future. In complete honesty, even though I would love to be some successful person living in an extravagant and decadent home, I know that this is probably not going to happen. See, in an opinionated statement, the future is a complete “toss-up” or a “coin-flip,” so to speak. Obviously, we are not psychics that can foresee what is going to occur in our lives. Although the future is inevitable, and ultimately a randomized destiny, the chances of succeeding is very high. That being said, although the future is inevitable, success is not. One aspect of the episode of “How I Met Your Mother” that I did not agree with was that the episode portrayed that “happy endings” in life are acquired by everyone that at least tries. As many of us know, we are probably not all going to be fortunate enough to obtain the “girl who got away,” or “that brand spanking new convertible I want so badly.” Although we may try and try and try, succeeding and getting what we want still may not happen. In a concluding statement, “How I Met Your Mother” avidly portrays the fact that everyone desires the most positive outcomes in their futures. That being said, the said positive outcomes are probably not just obligated to a person from trying their hardest. If an individual does receive their best outcomes, then, yay. If not, then that is just a fact of life.

DeleteWow! I love your writings, Ben! This piece in particular relates to my life right now in so many ways. When I read it, I was just like, "Oh my gosh, someone gets it!" I feel like I'm drowning in all these activities. Well, "activities" is a really bad word for it. It makes me sound like I'm doing arts and crafts all day. I feel like I'm drowning in all of my responsibilities. Every time I come up short in something, I feel like I'm being lazy or just not doing my best. At least that's what other people think. In reality, I'm exhausted. I litterally answered my cell the other day with, "Thanks for calling Panera Bread by the Lima Mall, this is Leah!" My schedule is honestly just ridiculous. Anyway, I totally have dreams just like this all the time, which makes it really easy to relate to. Except when I wake up in the morning, I don't get up and confidently stride any where. I usually hit the snooze button six or seven times and head out the door looking pretty much like what I looked like when I woke up. With, if you haven't seen me after I have just woken up. . . Well, I'll just say it's kinda scary.

ReplyDeleteBody Paragraph:
On issue with the season finale of “Once Upon A Time” that may alter the audience’s opinion on the show is the fact that the character’s acting contains a high degree of gratuitousness. It is noted that many occurrences within the plot of the season finale contain extremely obvious actions and dialogue. This can make many viewers lose interest in the show on account of the fact that, since the characters are very “played out,” the episode can simplistically be boring. In further detail and support on the idea that the characters are predictable, most of the dialogue contained within the episode is exactly what can be expected. In complete honesty, why would an individual even desire to watch a show in which they can predict a characters behavior within 5 minutes of watching said show? A second rising issue is that, on account of how the characters are predictable, the plot derived from the character’s interactions can also be seen as expected. The genre of the program is a drama, and the only tension filled situation that the show creates is whether to turn the show off or not. Because of the fact that the characters are rather bland and unsurprising, the plot, climaxes, and development of the show are, in correlation, very bland and lack verisimilitude. It is understandable that the show is located in a fairytale-like setting, but that is not excusable for the lack of genuine expression from the characters. If an individual’s main purpose for watching this episode is for expressionless dialogue and faux dynamic characterization, then this show is perfect.

ReplyDeleteDuring the political season, people witness many advertisements pertaining to the candidates of the election. My reaction to these ads basically consists of kneading and walking between the charged words and the truth. While doing so, I find it unfortunate that mist if these ads are typically muck. While watching the ads, most of the points made contain the purpose of refuting and degrading the opposing candidate instead of presenting the positives of the original candidate. Although this doesn’t necessarily make me not have a desire to vote (I am only 17, so I cannot anyways) it does make a lot of others refuse the voting process. That being said, the necessity to vote is ever so vital to the country. A lot of times, an individual can hear people state “Oh, I did not vote...” and sometimes this sentence often can be followed by, “butt, our president sucks so badly!” This, in an honest statement, ticks me off ever so intensely. If an individual believes a president is doing a terrible job, yet did not vote, then why didn’t they do something (like voting) when they had the chance to. If someone doesn’t enjoy what the president is pursuing, yet didn’t vote for anyone, then what political purpose are they choosing? None. People, please vote, if you can. I know that the large amount of muck and charged terms can turn someone against voting, but not doing anything about it is what the issue is. Even if the election is about “who you hate less” more than “who you like more,” please, just vote.

ReplyDeleteThe room is filled with feelings of contentment and gratitude as Will Stanford, the leading FBI agent in the United States, is sitting with his family at the dinner table. His wife enters the room, followed by a pleasant scent of tacos. It is Tuesday taco night, and his family is about to eat dinner. Swiftly, Will’s wife turns to him with a contorted face of confusion with a slight notice of anger.
“Will, wake up,” She tells him.
“What do you mean, dear?” He asks, puzzled by the question.
Suddenly, everything becomes wet as she screams,
“Wake up! Wake the hell up!”
Will, then, wakes up to a bucket of water being poured aggressively on his face. He is completely surrounded by Scottish spies in a Prisoner of War camp in Scotland.
“Who sent you?! What are your motives?!” They are penetrating his ears with these questions.
Will knows better. He has been trained in the FBI to not comply with these questions. He also knows that physical abuse is likely to take place after not answering….
BAM, and he is struck in the face. Whack, another blow is taken, resulting in a tooth flying out of his mouth. “Well, at least the Tooth Fairy will be happy to see me,” he smirks to himself. His shirt is completely soaked in blood, yet he does not answer.
Ever since Scotland ceased to supply the United States with their abundance of natural resources, foreign affairs between them has been a tragedy. The only thing keeping Will Stanford alive is the hope of sitting with his family, eating tacos, and enjoying each other’s presence.

ReplyDeleteDetective: It’s approximately 24 hundred hours, on March 5th, 2011. After a quick scan of the hotel room, there is a notification of excessive drinking. Upon further investigation, there are two plates of supper on the table, and accompanying one of them are dirty dishes including a fork, a knife, and a spoon. Please note the other plate has an abundance of food and unused dishes. After investigating the bathroom, Mark Alferman, 25, is located in the tub. A radio device was placed in the tub, assisting in the theory that the death was a suicide.
Coroner: There’s a lack of scars and physical damage that typically accompany a murder victim. The frightening lack of a struggle may incorporate a suicide. The motive, as directed by the detective, is completely and utterly unclear. Upon further ultra violet investigation, the victim appears to have only had one marking of a secondary person’s DNA on his body. The kiss-like mark located on the left side of the victim’s face match with the genetic lip patterns of Kate McGonagall, 24, the apparent girlfriend of Mark.
Attorney: Mark Alferman, 25, was a victim of a homicide pursued by Kate McGonagall, 24, at approximately 23 hundred hours, on march 5th, 2011. It is noted by phone records that Kate cancelled an apparent date with Mark at a hotel, later confessing a lack of emotions for him, and they broke up. Mark then ate his plate of supper, explaining why only one set of dishes was utilized, and began to drink excessively on account of stress. Mark, while inebriated, decided to take a warm bath to clear his thoughts. Kate McGonagall then entered the hotel room, through the radio device in the tub, killing Mark, and kissed him one more time before his depart. Kate McGonagall is the murderer, your honor.

ReplyDeleteWhat happens when a man bumps into a former girlfriend while he shops for baby toys with his pregnant wife? The man once said “I am not the marrying type.”
“Oh snap!” The man mentally professes to himself. Is that Tanya? Oh dear lord, it is Tanya! Thoughts like these are viciously eating away at his mental state. She looks over, and suddenly he is completely and utterly white. Nothing he does or can do will help him now.
“Hey, Dan!” She shouts from across the mall.
“Go away, go away, go away!” Dan repeats in his mind. He looks over to his wife, pregnant she is, also with a rather puzzled face.
“Awh, is that your wife?” She questions intriguingly.
“Uhh, yes, yes she is,” Dan answers in a confusing and thoughtful manner.
“Well, I remember you used to say you were not the marrying type, but I am glad to see you met a woman as significant and precious as your wife is to change your mind! I have to go, congrats on the happy marriage and child, you two!” She states in a sincere and comforting manner.
Dan looks over towards his wife, and she smiles in approval at him. The situation that just occurred left a twinkle in his wife’s eyes, and he is honestly dumbfounded that the situation that occurred just happened in the best possible way ever. Honestly, Dan even forgets that he was even scared when he first made notice of Tanya. She was just some college fling anyways.

ReplyDeleteIt smells terrible in there, like a stench of unwantedness and utter fear, neglect. Why, oh why did I choose the basement for a bedroom place? Ever since I moved here to the Amity House my friends have been telling me stories and folk legends about the house I live in now. The worst part is; I am starting to believe them. Last night I swore I heard people conversing about a funeral. Why a funeral? I do not know, but it was frightening, to say the least. I think that my dad is starting to notice, too. He has been stressed out lately and he has also been stressing me out, as well; telling me to be “a man.” It’s not like he is leaving soon and making me take his place, right? Well, I hope not, at least. I do not know what is going on, but what I do know is that I am not too willing to live in the hell-house much longer. I swear someone is watching my ever single movement and every single physical move I make. The worst part of this situation is that I cannot tell anyone because of the fact that they will think I am going insane. Heck, I am starting to believe that I am going insane. All of these folklore stories about an Indian burial ground below my house and a father that murder his family here is starting to become more believable. It is way too scary here, and all I smell is the stench of neglect and fear.

ReplyDeleteA witch, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny break into a museum. The scientific museum of ancient technology is located on the corner of eighth and Hope Street. Santa Claus is the first person to break and enter, followed by the Easter Bunny, and the witch. Why are they breaking into a museum? To have a good ol’ shindig, that is why. See, the Easter bunny broke up with his previous girlfriend, the tooth fairy, and Santa Claus promised to have a party to lift his spirits up. He was going to throw this specific hootenanny at his house, but Mrs. Claus was not going to have that any day, she was too busy cleaning the house and getting ready for the holiday season. The witch, well, the witch is just there to get the Easter bunny’s mind of his ol’ gal. So, they enter the museum, call up their friends, and invite them all over. Everyone has a memorable time. Jack Frost is dancing the night away, all of the elves are raiding the snack table, and even Mr. Sandman woke up to enjoy his time. The Easter bunny and the witch are not working out at all, but that is okay because this particular bunny has been talking up the tooth fairy again like nothing ever happened between them; probably the work of Mr. Valentine, that devious party animal him. Well, even though Santa went to jail for plotting the whole thing, and Jack Frost broke his tibia trying to Jersey Turnpike, everyone will not forget the great party at the museum.

ReplyDeleteIn class, on the 13th of November, we watched a series of videos entitled “Everything is a Remix.” One thing that I really enjoyed from the videos was the fact that it presented how creativity has a necessity, or origins, from influence. I found that piece of information rather interesting. Psychologically, the influences that exist in our lives are subconsciously received by our minds and affect a lot of the ideas that we contain. This was exemplified by how one music artist was sued for a large sum of money for subconsciously using influences from a song from a band that existed a decade previous to the sued artist. Another thing that I found rather interesting was the fact that, in the golden age of Hip-Hop, a lot of the beats, samples, and synths to create new songs, existed in previous songs, which existed in previous songs, which… you know what I mean. I found this rather interesting because, just the other day I was listening to a pop rock version of Umbrella by Rihanna. Speaking of covers, another interesting portion of the video discussed how covers were in legal boundaries in terms of legality. For example, if I decided to cover, oh, let’s say Ke$ha’s new song, as long as I give full credit to the original creator, it would be legal. Also, knock-offs, are also legal on account of the fact that the original influences of pieces of art are skewed to an extent that they are completely new. Overall, I feel as if the psychological connection between copywriting and remixed material was phenomenally presented in this series.
In Class #14: Parents help their son make up w/ his girlfriend
ReplyDelete“Damn it, Jimmy! She was so nice, too. You messed it up mighty hard this time..” These words are revolving around Jimmy’s head. Spiraling, and ultimately digging and digging at his mental state. Why did he have to cheat? We do not know, but, regardless, Jimmy’s girlfriend Misty is in a world of hurt.
“Okay, the first thing you need to do is buy her some nice flowers. Not any paper fake crap though, that isn’t want the ladies want. You need to give her some nice ol’ tulips or something man,” his dad says to Jimmy.
“Well, what next, paps?” Jimmy asks eager to apologize to his previous girlfriend.
“Well, I am glad you asked son. You need to walk up to her window balcony, at around midnight, and sing her some song that really means a lot to her,” Papa Jimmy states.
“I have no idea about a song that means anything to her though!” Jimmy frantically replies.
“Well, then just sing her any song, like, I dunno, Funky Town!” his dad exclaims.
“Well, if you uhh, if you say so..,” Jimmy says.
So, Jimmy went to Misty’s window sill, at approximately midnight, to give her flowers and sing to her. After creating a beautiful rendition of “Funky Town,” they fell in love again. Their love was basically as good as new, and Jimmy thanked his dad ever so much for all of the help. Jimmy, later on with his girlfriend, proposed to her at Disco Tuesdays at the Civic Center, and they lived happily ever after. Theeeee End.

ReplyDeleteSo, unfortunately, I was not able to attend classes on the date that we watched the speed art food videos. That being said, I was fortunate enough to locate the videos on the internet (thank god for the internet) and I would like to propose a few things I found interesting. In terms of the actual content of the video, that was some really cool stuff. I thought it was really awesome that someone could take a common item such as food and make it into an art form. In terms of connecting this with our upcoming research paper, I felt as if it was inspiring and it assisted me a little. To correlate the video with my research paper, I thought it was really cool that professionals in their field had the ability to create a new and innovative way to express their professions. This is a lot like what we are doing with our paper; finding a new and unconventional proposal to solve a problem located in our possible field of expertise. That being said, although the video was inspiring, I felt like it was slightly lacking in terms of significance of our papers. See, what the artists did was cool, but there never was a problem that they needed to solve in the first place. Unlike this, our research paper revolves around some issue or predicament that our possible future fields or occupations can ultimately solve. So, in conclusion, I felt as if the video was very inspiring and creative, but lacked certain aspects that would assist me in creating a more successful research paper.

ReplyDeleteToday, in class, we played a traditional and very relaxing game of Jeopardy during the lecture time. First off, this was awesome because of the fact that it was very chill and ultimately extremely relaxing. It was a nice little break that I appreciated very much. Secondly, I really enjoyed the game because it really helped and assisted in breaking down a lot of the MLA format rules for essays and other projects. I found this extremely helpful because of the fact that this is the format of our final paper. Another thing I really enjoyed was how the questions were also based off of the readings. I really enjoyed this part because of the fact that it helped extrapolate the significance of the assigned readings. I found this extremely significant because of the fact that these two pieces of literature serve as a very well though example on how we should approach our upcoming proposal extravaganza. After hearing the answers presented in the game, I felt better assured that I am going to do better on my next paper. These readings are very important and significant in guiding us in writing this essay, and, basically, having the professor explain the readings through this game was helpful. Not only was the class lecture time enjoyable, but it also served as a very insightful activity. Because the professor explained the answers in detail, I feel as if I know more about the readings, which, in turn, can and probably will assist me in successfully creating a proposal extravaganza. On a concluding note, good job team three! We did awesome.
